Wellness Wednesdays
We’re excited to announce the launch of Wellness Wednesdays, our new monthly newsletter dedicated to helping you prioritize your well-being. Each month, we’ll share practical tips, helpful information, and expert advice to support your journey to better health—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Whether you’re looking for ways to stay active, manage stress, or practice better habits, Wellness Wednesdays will deliver helpful information to keep you motivated all year long!
What is wellness? Wellness means taking care of your body, mind, and feelings. It’s about staying healthy, feeling good mentally, and keeping your emotions balanced so you can do your best in everyday life.
Benefits 101
Each month, we’ll provide benefit education information to empower you with knowledge about your insurance and other benefits. We’ll start with some key definitions:
Monthly premium: The amount that is deducted from your paycheck each month to pay the insurance company for your insurance.
Deductible: How much you must spend for covered health services before your insurance company pays anything (except free preventive services and some services covered under copayments).
Copayments and coinsurance: Payments you make to your health care provider each time you get care, like $20 for a doctor visit or 30% of hospital charges. In some cases, these kick in without having to meet your deductible first.
Out-of-pocket maximum: The most you have to spend for covered services in a year. After you reach this amount, the insurance company pays 100% for covered services.
It’s a New Year – Time to Refocus on your Wellness Goals. The EAP can help!
The New Year is a great time to remember to take care of ourselves and focus on wellness. Whether it’s getting more exercise, practicing mindfulness, or spending more time with loved ones, setting goals for positive change can make a big difference. These resolutions aren’t just about quick wins—they’re about creating a healthy and happy lifestyle that lasts. By sticking to these goals, we can grow and take on the new year with energy and purpose.
Our FREE Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) can help with the following goals and more! Employee Assistance Programs are free and easy to use! ALL Xylem Kendall employees and your household members have access to the EAP. In fact, we have two options. Click the links below to learn more.
Look for more information about the EAP in next month’s Wellness Wednesday newsletter!
Wellness Goals

Nurture Your Body
-
Regular checkups: Even if you feel healthy, an annual physical gives your doctor the chance to catch health problems early, before they become more serious. They can also help you stay on track with good habits.
-
Physical activity: Exercise is important for strong physical and mental health. It can boost your mood, help your immune system, aid digestion, and help you sleep.
-
Healthy eating: When it comes to taking care of yourself, what you eat and drink play a critical role. It affects how you feel, how well your body moves, and how well your brain works. Drinking enough water every day is also important.
-
Good sleep: Sleep restores your body and brain. Strive for 7-9 hours of quality sleep. To help, turn off electronic devices an hour before bed and go to sleep at the same time each night.

Make Time for Mental Health
-
Talk to a mental health professional: If you’re not sure how to start counseling or where to find a therapist, your health plan can help connect you with mental health support.
-
Get outside: Being around nature can improve focus, lower stress, and boost your mood. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or upset, step outside for a few minutes. A short walk outside in the fresh air can help clear your mind and calm you down.
-
Practice gratitude: Take a few minutes every day to be thankful for what you have by praying, meditating, or writing in a journal. Also, remember to tell those who matter most to you how much you appreciate them.

Connect with Others
-
Practice being more social: People who regularly engage with others, and even with pets, recover faster from illness and are sick less often. If you are feeling down, reach out to a trusted friend. A good laugh or heart-to-heart talk is healing for both mind and body.
-
Get involved: Volunteering is good for your mental health and your community. Find something that meets your interests and fits your schedule, whether it’s once a week or once a month.
-
Take a break from social media: Social media might seem like a good way to connect with others, but it also can take a toll on your quality of life, self-esteem, sleep, and mood. Take a break from your phone, starting with not checking your phone during meals, before bedtime, or right when you wake up.
